Video of Manhattan flooding, Con Ed power plant explosion during Hurricane Sandy

The damage in lower Manhattan caused by Hurricane Sandy has already been televised all over the world but the two below are worth revisiting because they’re a reminder at how much worse it could have been.

Below is the flooding that overran East 8th and Avenue C (with a map to help place the location). Watch for the blackout that hits at about :40.

Here’s the explosion at the Con Edison power plant that darkened lower Manhattan. This happened just a few blocks from the flooding above, although it looks like it’s out of a sci-fi movie.
